Eleanor Whitfield has spent eighteen years editing consumer insurance and personal-finance coverage, most of it spent turning policy wordings, regulator bulletins, and rate filings into decisions a reader can act on in an afternoon.
As Editor-in-Chief she owns Insurance 8020’s editorial standards: every figure needs a cited source and an as-of date, every requirement needs to point back to the regulator that sets it, and nothing on the site should read like a guarantee of price or coverage. She also writes about umbrella and personal liability coverage, the line she thinks most households underbuy.
Outside the newsroom she volunteers teaching basic household budgeting, which is where she first noticed how few people know what their own policies actually cover.
