The best landlord insurance in Arkansas comes from carriers that write a true rental dwelling form, hold a strong AM Best rating, and already write a meaningful share of Arkansas property premium. We ranked seven carriers with landlord or rental dwelling product pages we could fetch on October 15, 2026, ordered by their NAIC 2025 Arkansas homeowners group market share, and we list each carrier’s dated AM Best financial strength rating. We do not rank on price, because neither the Arkansas Insurance Department nor the NAIC publishes an Arkansas landlord premium average.

Key Takeaways

  • State Farm is the largest Arkansas property writer with a rental dwelling form - State Farm Group wrote 27.43% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium, more than double the next group, and sells a documented Rental Dwelling policy with loss of rents and liability.
  • Farm Bureau is the Arkansas-based alternative - Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Group held 13.04% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium, and Arkansas Farm Bureau sells a Dwelling Property policy for tenant-occupied homes that lists loss of rental value.
  • Allstate and Shelter round out the top property writers we could verify - Allstate held 9.96% and Shelter 8.46% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium, and both publish landlord or rental dwelling coverage pages.
  • Travelers holds the top AM Best grade among ranked carriers - AM Best affirmed Travelers’ A++ (Superior) rating on August 21, 2026.
  • Arkansas HO-3 runs above the national average - the NAIC’s 2023 Arkansas HO-3 average was $1,870, 7.7% above the $1,737 countrywide average, but that figure is owner-occupied, not a landlord average.
  • Arkansas homeowners losses ran hot in 2025 - the statewide homeowners loss ratio was 63.77%, against 55.14% countrywide, which helps explain tighter property underwriting.

How we ranked these Arkansas landlord insurance companies

We included only carriers with a working landlord or rental dwelling product page we could fetch on October 15, 2026, a dated AM Best financial strength rating, and a top-ten Arkansas homeowners book in the NAIC’s 2025 group market-share report. We then ordered them by that Arkansas group share, because a carrier that already writes a large Arkansas property book has local claims capacity and agents. Farmers ranks fourth by 2025 group share, but its public landlord URL returned a not-found page on October 15, so we did not rank Farmers. USAA ranks sixth, but we did not rank USAA because membership eligibility and a verified public landlord product page were not established for this listicle. Progressive ranks tenth and was not evaluated for a landlord form. J.D. Power property claims scores measure homeowners claims satisfaction, not landlord-specific claims, so we report them separately below.

1. State Farm: Arkansas’ largest homeowners writer with a rental dwelling form

State Farm is first because no other group comes close on Arkansas property scale. State Farm Group wrote $499.3 million of 2025 Arkansas homeowners multiple-peril premium, a 27.43% share, with a 62.78% loss ratio. AM Best downgraded State Farm Group, including State Farm Fire and Casualty, to A+ (Superior) from A++ on November 14, 2025, with a stable outlook, citing elevated homeowners and auto loss ratios and weather losses. A+ is still in AM Best’s Superior category.

State Farm’s Rental Dwelling page describes:

  • Dwelling for covered repairs or reconstruction of the rental dwelling and other structures on the property.
  • Personal property for furniture and other property rented with or used to maintain the property.
  • Loss of rents to help reimburse loss of fair rental value if a covered loss makes the dwelling uninhabitable.
  • Liability for covered liability lawsuits against the owner.

Tenants need their own renters insurance for their belongings. See our State Farm carrier profile, then compare quotes for your Arkansas rental.

2. Farm Bureau: Arkansas-based dwelling property cover with loss of rental value

Farm Bureau ranks second on Arkansas share and a clearly documented rental dwelling form. Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Group, whose Arkansas members include Arkansas Farm Bureau Insurance Company, wrote $237.4 million (13.04%) of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium with a 74.50% loss ratio. AM Best affirmed Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company at A (Excellent) on August 13, 2026, with a stable outlook. In August 2025, AM Best upgraded Arkansas Farm Bureau Insurance Company (formerly Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Arkansas) to A (Excellent) from B (Fair) after it demutualized, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty and began ceding 100% of its premiums and losses to that company.

Arkansas Farm Bureau’s Dwelling Property page says the policy covers owner, tenant and seasonally occupied dwellings and mobile homes. It lists:

  • Covered perils including fire and lightning, wind and hail, explosion, smoke, riot, aircraft and vehicles.
  • Personal liability as an additional coverage.
  • Theft, vandalism, glass breakage and weight of ice, snow or sleet.
  • Sudden water or steam discharge, freezing of plumbing and electrical surge damage.
  • Loss of rental value for rent lost after a covered loss.

Arkansas Farm Bureau quotes through local agents, and its listed office is in Little Rock. Ask the agent which perils are standard and which are optional on your specific rental before you compare.

3. Allstate: top-three Arkansas group with a detailed landlord package

Allstate ranks third. Allstate Insurance Group held 9.96% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium ($181.3 million written) with a 54.62% loss ratio, the lowest among the three largest groups. AM Best affirmed Allstate’s A+ (Superior) financial strength rating on September 2, 2026, with a stable outlook.

Allstate’s landlord insurance page says landlords and hosts coverage helps protect against sudden, accidental losses, including fire, wind, hail and other covered perils. Standard coverages listed include:

  • Dwelling protection for the rental property and attached structures.
  • Other structures for stand-alone garages and sheds.
  • Liability if you are considered at fault after an accident or loss related to the property.
  • Medical protection for reasonable medical expenses if a covered person is injured on the property, regardless of fault.
  • Fair rental income for rent you would otherwise lose while the unit is uninhabitable due to a covered loss.

Allstate notes that floods, earthquakes and water backup are typically excluded, and that tenant belongings are not covered. See our Allstate profile.

4. Shelter: regional writer with a rental dwelling and apartment owners line

Shelter ranks fourth. Shelter Insurance Group wrote $154.0 million (8.46%) of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium. Its 81.17% Arkansas homeowners loss ratio was the highest among the top ten groups, so expect careful underwriting on older roofs and storm-exposed properties. AM Best affirmed Shelter Mutual’s A (Excellent) financial strength rating in October 2024 while lowering its issuer credit rating to “a” from “a+”, citing weather-driven underwriting losses, and Shelter’s financial reports page lists A (Excellent) ratings verified in November 2025.

Shelter’s Rental Dwelling policy is a basic form. Its covered losses page lists:

  • Covered losses: fire, lightning, wind or hail, explosions, damage by non-owned vehicles, smoke, riot or civil commotion and aircraft.
  • Optional losses: vandalism, glass breakage, actions of thieves, falling objects, weight of ice, snow or sleet, collapse, escape of water from plumbing, freezing of plumbing and earthquake where available.
  • Covered liabilities: landlord liability and medical expenses for others injured on the premises.

For larger rentals, Shelter also markets an Apartment Owners policy for buildings with four units or fewer that adds loss of rent income. Because several perils are optional on the basic rental dwelling form, compare Shelter quotes peril by peril, not just on price.

5. Travelers: top AM Best grade and a 1-to-4 unit landlord policy

Travelers ranks fifth on Arkansas share but first on financial strength. AM Best affirmed the group’s A++ (Superior) rating on August 21, 2026, the highest grade on AM Best’s scale. Travelers Group wrote 3.92% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium ($71.3 million) with a 56.36% loss ratio.

Travelers’ landlord insurance page says the policy is generally designed for rental properties with one to four units. Coverages described include:

  • Premises liability with limits of $100,000 or higher available.
  • Medical payments with a $1,000 limit included if liability is purchased (higher limits available).
  • Property for the rental dwelling, other structures and the landlord’s furnishings and appliances.
  • Loss of use for fair rental value while the property is repaired after a covered loss.

Our Travelers review covers ratings in more detail. Travelers’ carrier page converted a historical landlord lead on this site.

6. Liberty Mutual: lowest Arkansas loss ratio among the top ten

Liberty Mutual ranks sixth, essentially tied with Travelers on share. Liberty Mutual Group held 3.91% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium ($71.2 million) with a 32.21% loss ratio, the lowest among the state’s top ten groups. Its landlord insurance page states an AM Best financial strength rating of A (Excellent) and lists common coverages including dwelling, premises liability, medical payments to others, personal property and wind/hail, and says you could save when you bundle landlord and home insurance. See our Liberty Mutual profile.

7. Auto-Owners: independent-agent rental dwelling form with the broadest add-on list

Auto-Owners ranks seventh on share. Auto-Owners Insurance Group wrote 3.46% of 2025 Arkansas homeowners premium ($63.1 million) with a 65.96% loss ratio. AM Best’s May 12, 2026 rating review left the group’s A+ (Superior) financial strength rating unchanged with a stable outlook. Auto-Owners sells only through independent agents.

Its Rental Dwelling page lists the most detailed set of options among the carriers we checked:

  • Dwelling and other structures, with replacement cost, actual cash value, or functional replacement cost for homes built before 1940.
  • Loss of rents when the dwelling is uninhabitable or cannot be rented due to a covered loss.
  • Landlord liability by endorsement and optional personal property coverage.
  • Water backup, ordinance or law, equipment breakdown and an increased cost endorsement that adds 25% above the dwelling limit.

The functional replacement cost option matters for older rentals. In the NAIC’s 2023 data, Arkansas had 13,987.0 HO-8 house-years, the modified-coverage form often used for older homes, or 2.0% of insured house-years. See our Auto-Owners profile.

How property claims satisfaction compares (J.D. Power 2026)

Landlord claims run through the same property claims operations as homeowners claims. J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Property Claims Satisfaction Study, based on 5,093 homeowners who filed a claim in the prior nine months, put overall industry satisfaction at 702 on a 1,000-point scale.

What Arkansas landlords should ask about storms and older homes

Arkansas had seven federal disaster declarations from 2021 through 2025 in the NAIC’s table, including three in 2023 and two in 2025. Wind and hail are named perils on every rental form above, but the deductible that applies to them, the roof settlement basis (replacement cost or actual cash value) and whether the roof’s age limits coverage vary by carrier. Ask each quote:

  • Is wind and hail covered at replacement cost, and is there a separate wind/hail deductible?
  • Is loss of rents included, and for how many months?
  • Is water backup or sewer coverage available, and at what limit?
  • Is earthquake available as an endorsement? Arkansas insurers wrote $58.2 million of earthquake premium in 2024, 17th among states.

Flood needs a separate policy. For cost benchmarks and why no official Arkansas landlord average exists, see our Arkansas landlord insurance cost guide and Arkansas homeowners insurance statistics. The national best landlord insurance companies and landlord insurance cost guides cover the same coverages in more depth, and sibling state rankings cover Washington, Colorado, South Carolina and Texas.

Arkansas city landlord pages for Little Rock, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Springdale and Jonesboro surface related guides automatically. Little Rock previously converted a landlord lead on this site. To add liability above your landlord limits, compare the best umbrella insurance companies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which landlord insurance company is best in Arkansas?

For small landlords who want a verified rental product from a large Arkansas property writer, State Farm ranks first on this page because of its 27.43% 2025 group share and documented Rental Dwelling coverages. Farm Bureau is the largest Arkansas-based alternative, and Travelers is strongest on AM Best’s scale at A++. The best carrier for you is the one that will insure your property at the limits you need, so request quotes for the same dwelling and liability limits.

Does homeowners insurance cover an Arkansas rental property?

Usually not for a full-time rental. Every carrier above sells a separate landlord, rental dwelling or dwelling property form for homes you rent to tenants. Ask for a landlord quote rather than assuming your HO-3 still applies once tenants move in.

Is there an average landlord insurance cost in Arkansas?

No official statewide landlord average is published by the Arkansas Insurance Department or the NAIC. The NAIC’s Arkansas dwelling fire form average of $571 is collected for one-family owner-occupied buildings and is not a landlord average. See Arkansas landlord insurance cost for those benchmarks labeled correctly.

Why is Farm Bureau’s AM Best rating history different from its parent’s?

AM Best upgraded Arkansas Farm Bureau Insurance Company to A (Excellent) from B (Fair) in August 2025 after it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty and began ceding 100% of its business to that company, which holds an AM Best rating of A (Excellent).

How do I compare Arkansas landlord quotes fairly?

Hold dwelling limit, liability limit, wind/hail deductible, roof settlement basis and loss-of-rent months constant across carriers, then request quotes for the same specifications.

How we verified this page

Arkansas group shares and loss ratios come from the NAIC 2025 P&C market share report (homeowners multiple peril).
